CONTENTS Known Problems You Might Encounter Troubleshooting Copyright Information How To Contact Us KNOWN PROBLEMS YOU MIGHT ENCOUNTER Williams-Sonoma Guide to Good Cooking requires that your Monitor Display be set to High Color (16 bit). To verify or set your Monitor Display to High Color (16 bit) follow these steps: From the Start Menu, go to Settings, Control Panel and select Display. With Settings selected in the Display Properties window, select High Color (16 bit) and then OK. You may be asked to restart your computer for the new settings to take effect. Before launching Williams-Sonoma Guide to Good Cooking, we recommend that you also check the Taskbar Properties to make sure the checkmark is removed from "Always on Top". To do so, right mouse click on the Taskbar, select Properties, click in the "Always on Top" checkbox so that the checkmark is no longer there. In addition, it is also recommended that your monitor display be set to 640 x 480 before launching Williams-Sonoma Guide to Good Cooking. From the Start Menu, go to Settings, go to Control Panel, and double-click on the Display icon. In the Display Properties window, move the Desktop area slide rule towards the far left, towards Less. 640 by 480 pixels should now be displayed underneath the slide rule. If at any time during installation of Williams-Sonoma Guide to Good Cooking you see a message asking you to insert the Windows 95 CD, click on the OK button. When the next message comes up, click on the Cancel button and proceed with installation of Williams-Sonoma Guide to Good Cooking. Following an uninstall of the Williams-Sonoma Guide to Good Cooking, if you attempt to re-install to the same directory you may get an error message stating that the drive cannot be selected and to try again later. Click on the Cancel button,and also on the two subsequent Cancel buttons. Click on Exit Setup, and Restart your machine. (To Restart your machine, click on Start in the Taskbar, click on Shutdown, and select Restart the computer.) Following the directions on the Installation Instructions card (in the box) you will now be able to re-install to the same directory. If you experience sound problems (particularly in the Glossary Techniques movies) in the Williams-Sonoma Guide to Good Cooking, and notice that sound seems to either speed up or slow down; please turn off the "Automatic Rate Adjustment" in the QuickTime control panel by taking the following steps. Click on the Start menu button in the Taskbar, go to Control Panel, and double-click on the QuickTime 32 icon. Select the More button, select the Audio tab, next uncheck the "Automatic Rate Adjustment". Select the Apply button, then select Yes to save the settings, and finally select Close. Please check to make sure that the WS Guide.exe is in the wsggc directory. If the WS Guide.exe has been moved out of the original install folder to either the desktop or another folder, the program will not launch and you will get an error message telling you to re-install the program because the wskl.cfg file cannot be found. You do not need to re-install, all you need to do is move WS Guide.exe back into the wsggc directory. Note, however, that you can make a shortcut of the WS Guide.exe and move it to any location, such as the desktop or another folder, by taking these steps. Select the WS Guide.exe by clicking once on it with the left mouse button; next click once on the right mouse button and select Create Shortcut (with the left mouse button). Double-clicking on the shortcut to WS Guide.exe placed in any location will launch the program. If you continue to experience problems launching the program, please refer to the Troublshooting section below. TROUBLESHOOTING If you experience problems not listed above, we suggest you try the following troubleshooting tactics before you call Technical Support. Stop or disable any programs or screen savers that might be running. Williams-Sonoma Guide to Good Cooking works best when it is the only program running on your computer. If a background program or screen saver takes control while Wiiliams-Sonoma Guide to Good Cooking is running, it may interfere with the playback of sounds or animations. Run the installation program again, as sometimes a file is damaged during installation or use. It is highly recommended that you Uninstall the previous version before reinstalling. To Un-install, go to Start Menu, go to Settings, select Control Panel, and then select Add/Remove Programs. Click once on Williams-Sonoma Guide to Good Cooking and then click the Add/Remove button, and then Yes. To re-install the Williams-Sonoma Guide to Good Cooking, please follow the instructions on the Installation Instructions Card. Please note that when re-installing, any previous saved files (such as saved recipe menus) will be lost. (Menus are saved in the wsklrw.neo file which resides in the Data folder.)
